What is GMC warnings
In the United Kingdom, a General Medical Council (GMC) warning is a formal notice given to a doctor by the GMC. Warnings are given to doctors if they have committed a serious breach of the medical code of conduct. A GMC warning can significantly affect a doctor’s career, as it may limit their ability to work in certain hospitals or practice medicine altogether.
Doctors are legally required to disclose their GMC warning to all patients, regardless of the reason for the warning. In some cases, negotiating a clinical management plan with the patient may be possible to allow the doctor to continue to see the patient. However, if the GMC warning is for a serious offence, the doctor may be required to stop seeing the patient.
