EU and EEA Legal Assistance

With the help of EU and EEA immigration solicitors, those who have passports from nations that are a member of the European Economic Area or Switzerland are automatically permitted to reside in the United Kingdom, and instead of a visa, they can apply for a registration certificate.

This certificate is not a requirement to live legally in the United Kingdom but it is essential in certain cases, such as:

• If your employer wants a copy of a registration certificate for proof of eligibility to work in the United Kingdom

To apply for the registration certificate, you must:

• Be working
• Be Studying
• Be able to financially support yourself
• Have a registration card

Non-EEA Family Members of EEA and Swiss Nationals

If a member of your family is an EEA or Swiss National and you wish to come to the United Kingdom, you must be accompanied by said family member. Once in the country, you can apply for a residence card, which will grand you the right of residence under European Law.

The residence card could be a separate document (referred to as ‘immigration status document’) or be an ‘endorsement’ in your passport (also known as a ‘vignette’). The residence card is valid for 5 years from the date it is supplied.

Permanent Residence Card

If you and/or your family have continuously resided in the United Kingdom for 5 years as an EEA national (in compliance with the EEA Regulations 2006), then you are eligible to apply for  Permanent Residence in the United Kingdom.

Family Permit

You can apply for a family permit to join your EEA national family even if you are outside of the EEA. An EEA family permit is valid for six months and before the expiry date, the non-EEA national is eligible for a residence card as a family member of an EEA national.

Alternatively, anyone who has entered the United Kingdom with a family permit under Surinder Singh principle is also eligible for a residence card as a family member of a British Citizen. This residence card as a family member of an EEA national is also issued in accordance with the EEA Regulations 2006, making it valid for upto five years.
